  2. Prepare 1 Tomato

  7. Prepare 1 lemon

You will be surprised to know that there is no dal (lentils) used to make this gathi kochur dal. But still, it is called as gathi kochur dal. Taro Root (Arbi ki Sabzi) is a very delicious dish prepared with Gathi Kochu (taro root) , potato , Prawn and Indian spices mix of gravy. It is very easy and quick to make and traditional dish.

Instructions to make Gathi Kochur Dalna Arbi Curry:
  1. Peel off the skin of the arbis. Cut them horizontally and wash them thoroughly. Put them in water for boiling. Squeeze half lemon and add the juice in water. Boil Kochu/arbis till softens.
  2. Make paste of tomato onion and garlic cloves.
  3. Put mustard oil in pan. Fry the Kochu/arbis. Set them aside after frying.
  4. Now temper the same oil with 1 tsp sugar and 1 dry red Chilli.
  5. Put the masala paste in pan. Add 1 tsp Coriander Powder, salt and sugar to taste. Add 1 tsp turmeric powder. Cook till raw smell of the Masala goes away.
  6. Add the fried arbis. Add water as much needed. Cook for few minutes till arbis get coated with the masala and water dries up. Add 1 tsp Garam Masala Powder.
  7. Squeeze the remaining half lemon and put off the flame. Mix everything.
  8. Ready to serve.

This curry is tangy and smokey in flavour.some times Taro bites the tounge.here I am using lemon juice it's taste is sour.my family loves this recipe alot On a hot day, light Kochur jhol ( translated as taro root in a runny gravy ) with rice and you do not need anything else. Ma cooks oal ( elephant foot yam) in the same way and it is lip-smacking, I would trade fish curry for kochur dalna any day.
